My work combines technology with nature to showcase both the beauty of electronics and the natural world
I created these works to share my love of engineering and my love of nature with the world. I find that electronic components are beautiful in and of themselves. Not only are they amazing in how they control the flow of electricity, but they can also be beautiful things to look at. I seek to bring to light how wonderful these normally unseen components can be.
The eBugs are made interactive by a module I designed that lights up and makes insect sounds. A rare-earth magnet attaches the module to the eBug. The module is attached to the frame. Alternatively, the eBug can attach to any metal surface, such as a refrigerator or a dry-erase board.
I designed a custom circuit board for my eBugs. They light up and mimic the sound of a real bug. I have them made in small batches and then use a reflow oven in my workshop to solder the components to the board. I use the same board for all of my eBugs, but I program a different sound and use different attachments and LED colors for each bug type.
Beautiful bug sculptures created from recycled components.
